In many places, talking to strangers can feel awkward.
But here in the Philippines, people naturally start conversations everywhere.
In elevators.
In cafés.
In taxis.
Simple questions like:
“Where are you from?”
“Do you like the Philippines?”
“It’s really hot today, right?”
Just a few words
and the distance between people disappears surprisingly fast.
It reminds me of a quote I once heard:
“There are no strangers in this world.
Only friends you haven’t met yet.”
Sometimes the Distance Is Just Untold Stories
Many of us feel nervous around people we don't know.
We hesitate.
We worry about awkward silence.
So we create distance.
But the truth is
that feeling of unfamiliarity is not about the person.
It simply means
our stories haven’t connected yet.
And once a conversation begins,
that distance shrinks incredibly fast.
A shared laugh.
A shared experience.
And suddenly
someone you just met
feels familiar.
The Courage to Approach First
may seem like a small action.
But in reality,
it takes courage.
It is the courage
to start a connection.
And a warm decision
to trust the world a little more.
When we stop doubting unfamiliar faces,
relationships can grow
into genuine friendships.
Maybe many of the good people in our lives
are not strangers at all.
They are simply
friends we haven’t met yet.
